About BahrainCalc
A small, independent set of calculators built for life in Bahrain and the wider Bahrain - finance, family, faith, and the everyday admin no global calculator covers correctly.
Why this exists
Most online calculators are built for the United States or Europe. They quietly assume a 40-hour week, a 1.5× overtime rate, a Friday-Sunday weekend, a tax bracket that doesn't exist in Bahrain, and a calendar that ends on December 31. We use them anyway, and the answers we get are slightly wrong in ways that matter - gratuity short by a month, a tenancy budget that ignores Salik/Tabadul, a working-day count that includes Friday.
BahrainCalc is the version where the rules are right the first time. Bahrain labour law for gratuity and salary. Bahrain VAT for invoices. Bahrain banking caps for mortgages. Bahrain prayer times by city. The point is not to be the prettiest calculator on the internet - it's to be the one you can actually trust for a Bahrain-context decision.
How we calculate
Every formula on BahrainCalc maps to a public source - a federal decree, a ministry circular, a bank disclosure, a published utility tariff, an established astronomical algorithm. Each calculator page lists the source under the result. When the rule changes, we change the calculator.
- VAT - Bahrain General Tax Authority, Decree-Law No. 8 of 2017.
- Gratuity, salary, working days - Bahrain Labour Law (Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021) and MOHRE guidance.
- Visa, Bahrain ID - ICA and GDRFA published fee schedules; Luhn checksum for ID validation.
- Mortgage - Bahrain Central Bank LTV ratios and standard amortisation formula.
- EWA - Manama Electricity & Water Authority published tariff slabs.
- Prayer, Hijri - Umm al-Qura calendar; established astronomical methods (MWL, ISNA, Egyptian, etc.) per user setting.
- School fees, tenancy - KHDA-published ranges and standard Manama/Manama market practice for Salik/Tabadul, agency and security deposits.
Update policy
We review every calculator on a rolling schedule and immediately when a law, tariff, or fee schedule changes. Each page shows a Last reviewed date and the source link. If you find a stale figure, please tell us - see the contact section below.
