How tipping works in Bahrain
Tipping in Bahrain is appreciated but not obligatory. Most sit-down restaurants in Manama and Manama add a 10% service charge directly to the bill - but unlike in many countries, this typically goes to the restaurant, not the server. A separate cash tip of 5-15% for good service is the most reliable way to reward staff.
Outside restaurants: round up taxi fares to the nearest BHD 5 or 10, leave BHD 5-10 per bag for hotel porters, and BHD 10-20 per stay for housekeeping.
A bill of BHD 250 with the 10% service charge already included. Add a 10% cash tip and split between four people: service BHD 25, tip BHD 25, total BHD 300, per-person share BHD 75.
Quick formulas
Service charge = bill × (sc% ÷ 100).
Tip = bill × (tip% ÷ 100).
Total = bill + service + tip.
Per-person = total ÷ number of people.
